RCH Ile de France Stud
On the farm Uitgezocht outside Ermelo is where Regina Harmse breeds stud, and commercial Ile de France sheep.
How RCH started:
In 1995, Regina discovered her love for the breed when she borrowed a friend and breeder’s rams for an experiment in crossing Ile de France with Merino as well as Meat Merino ewes. It was then that Regina realized that Ile de France was by far the best sheep breed.
In 2006, the first purebred Ile de France ewes were purchased and registered by RCH Ile de France Stud. RCH Ile de France is currently one of the largest Ile de France studs in South Africa.
The focus is on breeding superior animals for own use, in the stud and commercial side, as well as selling good genetic material to other breeders.
BREEDING
RCH strives to raise animals that meet the highest breeding standards:
Rams with excellent muscling,
Ewes with good maternal qualities,
Fertility,
Milk production and
Animals that are adaptable to their own production conditions.
Fertility, good maternal qualities, excellent growth, good meat and carcass quality are something that all sheep farmers strive for, which is why Ile de France is the breed to farm with.
